Hi, I am Emilia Abundis, an emerging Mexican designer living and creating in Vancouver, BC. Situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

I am doing my undergraduate studies in industrial design at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and as I keep learning, I am also finding my style and following my passion.

In my work, you can see a variety of materials and techniques being used as I work with a diversity of repurposed objects/ materials that are considered “obsolete”.

My practice is based on care and passion, with the objective of designing with what I already have by re-imaging the value and use that a material can have. The main issue that emerging designers are facing is not what new things can be designed but what we can create with the excess of disposed materials that the world already has.

In the future, I would like to collaborate and learn from/with other designers who also focus on up-cycled design. I am excited to see how much more I can push my work as I keep learning with and from other artists/designers.
